ROY STYFFE (saxophonist, clarinetist, flutist) currently lives and works in Victoria, British Columbia, continuing a performing career that has thrived for more than 25 years. He studied at the prestigious Humber College in Toronto, acquiring a Bachelor of Music degree there. While he resided in Toronto, he was the choice of several respected leaders for recording sessions and live performances, including Pat LaBarbera, Ed Bickert, Kenny Wheeler, Don Thompson, Bernie Senensky, and Ron Collier. He also released two of his own recordings as leader.
He was a featured player in four different bands who participated in the “Sound of Toronto Jazz” Concert Series over the years beginning with his own Roy Styffe Quartet on January 10, 1994, and later with the Steve Wallace Quintet (March 7, 1994), the Duncan Hopkins Quintet (March 7, 1996), and most recently with the Ron Collier Orchestra on November 19, 2001.
