MILT HINTON (bassist, bandleader) was born June 23, 1910 and passed away December 19, 2000 in New York City. The “Judge” as he was known is considered to be the “dean” of jazz bassists, a purveyor of the “slap” bass style. His storied career as bassist included 15 years with Cab Calloway, 3 with Louis Armstrong, a busy recording and studio schedule with jazz performers and popular artists like Barbara Streisand among others and studio musician at CBS. Hinton, in his second career, was a celebrated photographer of his world, producing two books of his art. Milt was a professor at the Manhattan School of Music and received numerous honorary doctorates.
