KEN FORNETRAN (alto saxophonist) played in two concerts as part of the “Sound of Toronto Jazz” Series: as a member of the Norman Marshall Villeneuve Sextet on October 21, 1991, and later as leader of his own Ken Fornetran Quartet on March 22, 1993.
Now living and working between Toronto and northern Ontario, Fornetran has performed in jazz festivals and on club dates both as a leader and a sideman with some of the jazz scene’s leading musicians including Norman Marshall Villeneuve, Bernie Senensky, George McFetridge, Roy Styffe, Jerry Fuller, Kirk MacDonald, Dave Restivo, Alex Dean, and Sean Nyquist.
Ken Fornetran’s debut CD Shadows and Short Stories was given a 4-star review in Downbeat Magazine, and later made the “Best CDs of 2005 list in the same prestigious publication. It also received critical acclaim in other important media including The Toronto Star.
In addition to his career as a musician, Fornetran has also earned a reputation as one of Canada’s finest woodwind repair technicians.
