BOB FENTON (pianist) was born in 1924, and passed away in Toronto on October 26, 2007 at 83 years of age. He was a respected jazz musician who continued to pursue a 40-year playing career right up until his illness. He was the long-time pianist with Jim Galloway’s Wee Big Band, and for many years, led the house band which performed at after-hours jam sessions during the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival.
He taught on the part-time music faculty at York University for many years. Upon his passing, Barry Elmes, Chair of the York Department of Music, said, “Those of us who knew him personally will remember Bob as a gifted jazz pianist, accompanist and teacher…a man who remained openly enthusiastic about jazz music…until the end of his life.”
Bob Fenton was the featured pianist in a total of five “Sound of Toronto Jazz” Concerts.
